Abstract

The ribbon drive system in typewriter ribbon cartridges consists of a fixed drive gear and a spring-loaded gear. The spring-loaded gear has two coil springs extending out of it. To insert them manually into the cartridge requires considerable manual dexterity. An insertion tool is provided which holds the gear on a dowel and a lever compresses the two springs at once. The whole assemblage can now be readily inserted into the cartridge, and the tool can be removed leaving the gears in place.
