Abstract

A method for suppressing the Stimulated Brillouin effect in optical fibers involves holding different short lengths of the optical fiber at different temperatures. The gain profile produced in this manner is broadened and its maximum value is lowered. As a result of this method a higher incident power is required for the gain to exceed the loss and for the Stimulated Brillouin scattering reflection to occur.
