Abstract

The long, blade-like lens which covers a copier's preclean lamp is constructed with its opposite ends of predetermined, but different, thickness. Service personnel can remove this lens and use its two ends to gage the spacing of other copier devices relative the photoconductor drum. Fig. 1 shows a xerographic photoconductor drum 10 which rotates on fixed position axis 11. Preclean lamp 12, having removable lens 13, operates to erase the drum's image area prior to cleaning station 16. Two sensors 14 and 15 are mounted at fixed, but adjustable, positions relative the drum's surface. As shown, sensor 14 is mounted closer to the drum than is sensor 15. Fig. 2 shows lens 13. This lens is about 20 inches long. End 20 is about 0.04 inch thick, whereas end 21 is about 0.06 inch thick. The width of the lens is about 0.4 inch.
