Vane Operated Screw Escapement

There is shown and described a device for use with automated assembly robots for providing more reliable screw feed.

Figure 1 is a side view and Figure 2 is a bottom view of the device. Screws are fed from a source (not shown) through track feed 2. Track 2 is inclined to take advantage of gravity feed. Cylinder 4 is provided with a screw receiving notch 6.

Cylinder 4 is fixedly attached through block 8 to vane 10. Air flows into block 8 through ports 12, so that air impinges on vane 10 to cause precise 180OE rotation of cylinder 4 to bring the screw in notch 6 to the position shown in phantom at 14 for pickup by a tool held by the robot manipulator.
