Abstract

In automated test equipment for testing circuits located on a card, the signature analysis technique has proved useful. This discloses a special interface card, termed a personality card, for interfacing between the automated test device and the card under test, enabling the card under test to exercise itself (where the card under test contains a microprocessor) or enabling a microprocessor to be placed on the personality card so that the combination of the personality card and the card under test can exercise itself.

In automated test equipment for testing circuits located on a card, the signature analysis technique has proved useful. This discloses a special interface card, termed a personality card, for interfacing between the automated test device and the card under test, enabling the card under test to exercise itself (where the card under test contains a microprocessor) or enabling a microprocessor to be placed on the personality card so that the combination of the personality card and the card under test can exercise itself.

For each card tested on a signature analysis functional tester, a means of interfacing it to the tester interface must be devised. To do this, a personality card is required for each product card to be tested and provides not only the interface to the tester but additional circuitry required for signature analysis as well. By locating special circuitry for test purposes on the personality card, a significant cost savings can be effected in product cards which might otherwise have to carry the hooks required to interface directly to a signature analyzer unit. With this approach, the product card can be merged with the personality card to form a single entity for test purposes, which shall be referred to hereinafter as the "C.U.T. Prime". This C.U.T. Prime assembly is then treated by the tester as a single card under test. This concept is illustrated in the figure.
