Abstract

Batches of multifaceted mirrors index and translate to present their surfaces, one by one, to an autocollimator 3 mounted on a base 4 which is aligned with a disk-support shaft 5 by a removable arm 6 carrying a sensor 7 for detecting light from the autocollimator 3. The shaft 5 carries a number of disks 1, separable by spacers 8, which are individually presented to the autocollimator 3 by axial translator 9 and indexer 10.

A computer 11, operated through a terminal 12, steps the translator 9 and indexer 10 in accordance with a program which records the quantified digital output of the autocollimator 3 for each mirror 2. The outputs are compared with pre-established acceptable quantifiers and a pass/fail determination is made for each mirror 2 on each disk.
