Springless Electrical Switch

An angled rocker magnet latches in either one of two positions without springs to operate reed switches.

A plastic housing 1 retains a button 2 carrying an angled strip of magnetic material 3 having two faces 4 and 5 alternately pivotable about point 6 against a flat strip of magnetic material 7. The materials 3 and 7 are oriented so that finger pressure on surface 8 of button 2 latches the button 2 in the position shown, and pressure on face 9 latches the button 2 in the opposite position.

Reed switches 10 and 11 are opened, or closed, depending upon the positions of corresponding ones of faces 4 and 5. For example, if reed switch 10 is normally open, it will be closed when the button 2 is in the position shown.
