Abstract

This high viscosity, water-based, drop on demand ink jet ink includes a polymer and a butanediol. The result is an ink with a low frequency of nozzle clogs. The preferred ink formulation, in wt.%, is: Nigrosine 01P dye 8.0% Dextran (60-90K molecular weight) 4.0% 1,3-Butanediol 20.0% DOWACIDE A (Trademark of The Dow Chemical Co.) 0.1% EDTA Tetrasodium salt 0.2% Ammonium hydroxide 0.9% De-ionized water 66.8% The workable wt.% ranges of the ink's three major constituents are: Nigrosine Dye 5-11% Dextran 1.75-6.25% 1,3-Butanediol 8.
