Printed circuit board manufacturing operations which fabricate printed circuit boards utilizing water-soluble photoresist produce large volumes of waste water containing organic materials in solution.

Commercial apparatus is available to filter dissolved organic waste out of solutions. These devices are generally termed ultrafiltration devices.

It is possible to utilize ultrafiltration devices as a waste treatment process for a circuit board manufacturing facility which uses aqueous resist.

Ultrafiltration units can also be used to purify the used developer and the used stripper so that the developer and stripper solution can be recycled into the process.

Evaporation can also be used to remove a large percentage of water from the waste materials, thereby concentrating it and facilitating disposal.

In the evaporation process, energy can be saved by using the distillate vapor from one evaporator to heat a second evaporator.
