Abstract

An enclosure for data processing apparatus has supporting casters that permit the enclosure to be rolled easily into a permanent position. The casters are supported on a rail structure that is laid over the usual raised floor and which helps to distribute the weight of the processor. A hinged skirt is mounted on the rails and provides electromagnetic shielding in the area between the bottom of the enclosure and the raised floor.

An enclosure for data processing apparatus has supporting casters that permit the enclosure to be rolled easily into a permanent position. The casters are supported on a rail structure that is laid over the usual raised floor and which helps to distribute the weight of the processor. A hinged skirt is mounted on the rails and provides electromagnetic shielding in the area between the bottom of the enclosure and the raised floor.

Because data processing apparatus has components that switch electrical signals rapidly and respond to such signals, the apparatus is a source of electromagnetic radiation and it is also adversely affected by electromagnetic radiation from other sources. An enclosure for data processing apparatus commonly has panels that are conductive and thereby provide electromagnetic shielding. An enclosure is usually spaced from the floor, and conductors from under the raised floor enter the bottom of the enclosure. This area may also require electromagnetic shielding.

In this system the rails are capacitively coupled to the grounded metal base of the raised floor by some means which may consist of a metal plate lying on top of the floor under the frames of the system.
