Soldering Card

Soldering cards bearding linear heating elements are effective to solder or to unsolder selected cards in place in a multicard module having exposed fillet solder connections.

The technique is usable in chip on chip and card on board situations so long as the solder is exposed or nearly exposed and so long as there is sufficient clearance for insertion of a card.

The figure shows a card on board array with soldering card 1 inserted between cards 2 and 3. The inset shows a detail of the card to board interface with card 2 mounted on board 4 by solder fillets 5. Soldering card 1 carries linear heating element 6 on the edge toward the card selected for solder action.

With the soldering card inserted and electrically connected to heat the heating element, the adjacent solder is heated to reflow temperature and the solder action takes place.
