Symmetrically Polarized Pluggable Capacitor Housing

This package provides polarization of several elements which are polarity sensitive, such as some types of capacitors in a package which is symmetric with respect to its mounting.

Fig. 1 is an isometric view of the assembly in which a housing 1, which may be molded of an insulating material, such as a suitable plastic, is provided with some type of retention device, such as latches 3 and 5 which secure the housing to a carrier, such as a printed circuit board (not shown). Mounted in the housing in a symmetric array are polarized circuit components 7 and 9 which may be, for example, electrolytic capacitors.

The capacitors are provided with offset terminal leads 11 which have spring contact elements 13 affixed to their ends. These contacts are arranged to engage mating contact elements in the carrier. An array of clearance holes may be provided to clear signal/power pins on the carrier.

As will be evident from Fig. 2, which is a bottom view of the assembly, it is symmetric for 180 degrees of rotation so that it will always be correctly related to the required polarity.
