The arrangement shown in the drawing allows spurious pulses to be eliminated at the receiver side when the drivers release the line randomly.

The bus is comprised of n open-collector drivers D1 to Dn separated by line pieces of characteristic impedance Z0.

Matching impedance Z0 is arranged to locate the total reflections caused by the drivers in the conducting state on the line side opposite receiver R as long as the last driver has not released the line. Thus, there is always a driver which guards the receiver against the pulses caused by a total reflection.

Clamping diode D cancels the spurious oscillations at the receiver side, on negative-going transitions, when only one driver is conducting at a time.

Capacitor C eliminates secondary spurious pulses and prevents them from being recombined when the first driver D1 does not derive all current I0. This adds an extra protection when more than one driver is holding the line at a low level.
