Abstract

Shown above is a schematic diagram of an automatic system for placing all the components of a device from component boxes into a kit. The component boxes or containers are gated onto a carousel. The carousel moves the component containers to a robot that picks components from the containers and places them in a kit. When a component container becomes empty, it is gated off the carousel, and a full container is gated on to replace it. Men a kit has all the required components for the device, it is gated out and replaced by an empty kit.

Shown above is a schematic diagram of an automatic system for placing all the components of a device from component boxes into a kit. The component boxes or containers are gated onto a carousel. The carousel moves the component containers to a robot that picks components from the containers and places them in a kit. When a component container becomes empty, it is gated off the carousel, and a full container is gated on to replace it. Men a kit has all the required components for the device, it is gated out and replaced by an empty kit.

Component container 10 is transported from a storage area to carousel buffer and loading station 14 on powered roller conveyor 12. As containers 10 approach buffer station 14, they pass through identifying reader 20. Reader 20 will open or close gates 16, permitting each container 10 to be positioned in one of eight loading stations 18. This operation will continue until all eight loading stations are filled each station with a different component container.

Carousel 22 is indexed counterclockwise until carousel station 1 is in alignment with load station 1, at which time component containers 10 are loaded onto carousel 22 from stations 1 through 8. Carousel 22 is the indexed until station 1 is under robot 30, and positioning pins 24 are in place. The carousel and robot are now in the start position for placing components in kits. At this time, kits 26 and 28 should be in a locked position in robot 30.
