Resilient Drive Belt Installation Device

Stretchable or semi-elastic belts are installed on pulleys by oversized posts arranged to overlay the pulleys with a slip-over operating mechanism cooperating with the posts.

Machine unit 10 has pulleys 11 and 12 rotatably mounted thereon for receiving a flexible or elastic belt shown generally at 15. Belt installation tool 20 includes a fixed post 21 and left/right movable post 22, each of which has a respectively larger diameter than pulleys 11 and 12. Springs 18 and 19 normally bias posts 21 and 22 in a downward direction. Initially, post 22 slides inwardly (in the direction of arrow 24) to allow placement of belt 15 over oversized pulleys 21 and 22. Cam 25 is then pivoted outwardly against the slide block 33 which carries post 22. Post 22 is moved to where the centerlines of 21 and 22 are coincident with the centerlines for pulleys 11 and 12, respectively. Tool 20 is then pushed downwardly as by plunger 28 until pulleys 21 and 22 overlay pulleys 11 and 12. Posts 21 and 22 then move inwardly into housings 31 and 32 against the outward spring bias applied thereto until belt 15 slips from posts 21 and 22 and onto pulleys 11 and 12.
