Abstract

Cable contacts can be accurately positioned in aconnector housing by constructing a fixture for holding the housing which incorporates a plurality of Pins aligned with the contact openings of the housing and against which the cable contacts can seat. This provides a locating reference for the contacts and enables transverse retaining pins to be inserted through windows in the housing that align with openings between the cable contacts.

Contact Seating Fixture

Cable contacts can be accurately positioned in aconnector housing by constructing a fixture for holding the housing which incorporates a plurality of Pins aligned with the contact openings of the housing and against which the cable contacts can seat. This provides a locating reference for the contacts and enables transverse retaining pins to be inserted through windows in the housing that align with openings between the cable contacts.

In the figure, fixture 1 has guides 2 for receiving connector housing 3. The housing has slots 4 into which contacts 5 of cable 6 are inserted. The fixture is formed with bosses 7 of predetermined height against which the ends of contacts 5 abut when the housing is in place. After all contacts have been seated, retaining pins 8 are inserted in holes 9 and contact openings 10 aligned therewith. The fixture is preferably formed to accept housing 3 only when correctly positioned.
