Print ram actuators (Fig. 1) comprise magnetizable bars 1 in a ram 2 which are pulled into the operating gaps 3 of an electromagnet 4.

Bars 1 in ram 2 may be isolated from each other by non-magnetizable material or be interconnected by thin bridges 5 of the same material as the bars, filling the interstices with non-magnetizable mate rial 6.

A cavity armature (Fig. 2) permits the ram to have a continuous smooth surface without any abutting edges 7. Bars 1 in Fig. 1 correspond to those designated as 1' in Fig. 2. In this case, too, the interstices may be filled with non- magnetizable, e.g., plastic, material.

For producing such cavity armatures (Fig. 3), two complementary component halves 8 and 9 are welded together.
