Pencil capacitor lead breakage during shipment is reduced by an inexpensive retainer which increases the capacitor base, and provides for cleaning and heat dissipation.

Due to space requirements, it is often necessary to mount pencil capacitors, such as that designated by reference numeral 1, verticallyon a circuit board. When a plurality of such capacitors are clustered in close proximity to one another, straps, ties, bonding, etc., can be effectively used to impart vertical stability and reduce lead breakage. However, when a single capacitor stands alone, vertical stability is dependent upon the lead strength, and shipping often results in breakage.

Breakage is reduced, and cleaning and heat dissipation are provided for with a retainer 5. Retainer 5 has a cylindrical opening for matingly accepting capacitor 1. Retainer 5 also has a plurality of pairs of lead openings 4, heat dissipation openings 3, and a plurality of feet 2. The reasons for more than two openings 4 is to provide for different orientations of capacitor 1. The reason for feet 2 is to permit sufficient room to remove excess solder flux.
