Footnote Reference Revision

Throughput is increased by providing editable footnote references in the absence of corresponding footnotes.

In a menu-driven keyboard/display word processing system structured to automatically manage footnote referencing during both input and editing, rendering footnote references available in the absence of corresponding footnotes eliminates many problems normally associatedwith calling and displaying footnotes. One such problem is that a diskette must be found and loaded if the footnotes are stored in a separate footnote library.

In managing a solution to these problems, an operator is providedwith an option menu including create/revise footnote text, diskette/ document name and text page number. Menu selection of the text with the footnote references will then result in the text being displayed for editing. Since the system will later handle referencing, normal requirements, such as additional diskette loading, are eliminated.
