Outline Format Preview

Throughput is increased and trial and error time expenditures are eliminated by providing an editable outline outline.

Even with the availability of automatic outlining capabilities in keyboard/display word processing systems, formatting is one level at a time. In addition, an operator has no means of determining the appearance of an outline level in a document without entering and displaying an appropriate portion of the outline document. A change thereafter in one level to correct the document format may require changes in other levels. This trial and error process is often repeated several times before the desired results are achieved.

A solution to the above tedious and time consuming problem is to provide an editable outline outline. Implementation is by adding a format preview option to an outline level selection menu. If the operator selects the preview option, the system will dynamically construct an outline prototype which will illustrate a format for selected outline levels.
