Connector Retainer

A plastic connector is shaped to grip the base of an assembled connector and to hold the connector plugs securely attached to the connector base.

The drawing shows a commercially available connector base 2 and plugs 3 that carry mating connectors (not shown). Slots 4 in plugs 3 receive a ribbon cable (not shown). The base has various parts 5, 6 that conventionally help in mounting the base in inserting the plugs into the base. The retainer is shaped to grip these parts. The retainer 7 has an element 5' that fits into slot 5, an element 6' that snaps over post 6, and elements 8 that snap over the tops of plugs 3.
