Car-Mounted Lead-Screw Escapement System

A mechanism is disclosed which provides escapement of the print element carrier without belts, cords or gears. A fixed lead screw integral with an escapement motor is used for displacing the carrier to which it is attached.

Lead screw 4 is assembled internal to motor 2 and fixed on both ends in order to prevent rotation and translation. Pressed, molded or otherwise fixed to rotor 5 is a plastic female lead-screw insert 6 which mates with lead screw 4. Bearings 8 provide bearing surfaces for rotor 5 as well as clearance for lead screw 4. When motor 2 is energized, the rotation of rotor 5 engages rotor insert 6 and thus propels motor 2 and the attached carrier (not shown) along lead screw 4
