Holding Fixture for Selvage Strip Attached Workpieces

The selvage strip of attached workpieces is easily mounted/dismounted to a flexible holding fixture by flexing the fixture.

Plural workpieces W (Fig. 2) are attached between a pair of selvage strips S1 and S2, each of which has aligned orientation holes H. Rectangularly shaped holding fixture 10 (Fig. 1) has a pair of side members 11 and 12 joined by flexible end members 13 and 14. Plural posts 15 are symmetrically spaced and affixed in paired alignment on the opposite inner walls of members 11 and 12 and are adapted to engage the end orientation holes of one of the selvage strips, e.g., strip S1.

In operation, to load/unload the fixture 10, members 13 and 14 are deflected downwardly, cf., arrow A, at their midpoints M while supporting members 11 and 12 from beneath. This places members 13 and 14 from their normal horizontal position indicated by the center line L of member 14 to their deflected position as indicated by the deflected center line L' (Fig. 2), with a concomitant inward movement of opposite posts 15 from their normal positions, as indicated by their centers C to their resultant deflected positions, as indicated by their centers C', and thereby facilitating the mounting or dismounting of the selvage strip S1 on the posts 15. The members 13 and 14 are maintained in the deflected position until the loading or unloading is completed, whereupon the members 13 and 14 are returned to their aforementione...
