Antiwear Coating

A ceramic-filled urethane is used to protect a metal part from abrasion by another engaging and moving metal part.

Often the operation of one member by another, for example, the operation of the metal document entry gate of a copier by a metal control arm whose operation opens the gate, involves sliding contact between the driving member and the driven member. After prolonged use, abrasion of one or both of the members may cause failure.

When a ceramic filled organic coating is applied to the area of sliding contact, of one or both parts, the useful life of the parts is extended. An example is LAMINAR* X500-8B6, a ceramic-filled urethane.
