Abstract

A printwheel 1 having a cone-shaped cup-like form with a wide brim 7 carrying characters 8, 9, 14 of different diameters is formed by several spoke-like petals 2 arranged around a rotatable hub 3. For adjusting the character rings 8, 9, 14 provided on the brim 7, the conical part 6 of the petal 2 is deflected to bring the desired character set 8, 9, 14 in front of the print hammer 10. This deflection of the character-carrying petals 2 is performed either on a single petal 2 from inside to outside (Fig. 1) or on all petals 2 by narrowing or expanding the cone part of the printwheel from outside or inside, respectively, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3. Fig. 1 shows printwheel 1 having a series of petals 2 connected to hub 3 rotatable around an axis 4 and driven by motor 5.

For adjusting the character rings 8, 9, 14 provided on the brim 7, the conical part 6 of the petal 2 is deflected to bring the desired character set 8, 9, 14 in front of the print hammer 10. Fig. 1 shows printwheel 1 having a series of petals 2 connected to hub 3 rotatable around an axis 4 and driven by motor 5. The petals 2 emanating from hub 3 include a conical part 6 and a wide brim 7 on which two rings 8, 9 of characters are provided. The petals 2 open from the narrower hub 3 to the wide brim 7 of larger diameter, whereby they form the cone-shaped cup-like printwheel
1. The two rings 8, 9 of characters on brim 7, being essentially perpendicular to rotational axis 4, show different diameters. In the undeflected position of petals 2, shown in solid lines in the figure, the outside ring 9 is in front of print hammer 10 being activated by magnet 11. In order to bring a character from the inner ring 8 into print position in front of print hammer 10, solenoid 12 is activated such that its plunger 13 comes into position 13', deflecting a petal 2 into position 2', shown in phantom lines.
