Abstract

Matching printer indexing increments with operator-specified line densities permits more efficient and useful operator utilization of printer console up/down controls. Printers attached to modern keyboard/display word processing systems have consoles with buttons for controlling on/off, paper eject, paper up/down, etc. A disadvantage of these printers is a lack of flexibility. An example is in the area of indexing. An invariable indexing increment is provided, and this increment is a multiple of a plurality of available line spacings. A solution is to cause the indexing increment to match that specified by the operator during job setup with the keyboard/display. This will eliminate tedious at-the-printer platen manipulations by the operator when later paper feeding or adjustment is necessary.
