Abstract

In advanced automated information processing operations involving both data processing and text processing equipment, there is a requirement for a universal printing system wherein various text or extra data processors may communicate with a printer which will provide the documents or printouts using a universal print level data stream. For convenience, such a universal print level data stream will be referred to as a level 2 data stream. To this end, various conversions would have to be made in the data stream utilized in the particular processing system in order for that data to be communicated through the universal level data stream to the particular printer.

Text Processing System Involving Conversion of an Editable Level Data Stream Into a Universal Print Level Data Stream

The present feature provides an expedient for converting an editable level data stream used in text or word processors to a universal print level data stream which may be used in the communication of data to the printer. The conversion involves an intermediate step wherein the editable level data stream is first converted into a specific print level data stream which is peculiar to the particular text or word processor being used. Then, after this conversion to the specific print level data stream, conversion to the universal print level data stream is completed. The conversion from the specific print level data stream to the universal print level data stream is a relatively simple one since most of the functions are corresponding. In a particular example involved, let us assume that there already is in place a specific text or word processing system. This system consists of word processing equipment which handles a editable level data stream and provides means for communicating with these word proce...
