Abstract

When using a word processor in a data processing mode, the user may need to change printer parameters. This has been accomplished by putting up a different display for making the necessary changes. However, this procedure can be confusing to the operator. In order to provide a less confusing screen when a particular parameter has been selected to change, the user is prompted below the entire list of parameters with the available choices for that parameter without going to a separate frame or scrolling that frame. For example, if the parameter to be changed is the page length, the prompt at the bottom of the display would be: CHOICES: 1 - 255 lines As another example, if the parameter to be changed is the character pitch, the prompt would be: CHOICES: a) 10 b) 12
