Abstract

Resilient ring or sleeve 40 isolates magnetic motor 12 with respect to frame 42. Motor 12 is effective for moving transducer 26 across magnetic disk 28 by means of a servo loop mounted on frame 42, and ring 40 thus solves a significant problem of keeping vibration of motor 12 from interfering with the servo loop via frame 42. Motor 12 comprises flux shield 10, four magnets 14 distributed about support ring 20c, and a magnetic circuit in series with magnets 14 and comprising, in addition, an outside ring 20a, core with end bell 20b in addition to shorted turn 16. Gap 18 is provided about core 20b, and coil 24 is disposed in gap 18. Carriage 25 connects transducer 26 disposed on magnetic disk 28 with coil 24 so that, when the current through winding 24 is changed, carriage 25 and transducer 26 are moved.

Ring 40, which is vulcanized to both ring 20a and to ring 44, decouples and dampens the undesirable forces produced by the interrelationship of carriage 25 and the stationary motor 12 from being transmitted through common frame 42 to the electrical servo loop connected with transducer 26 and mounted on frame 42 so that the servo loop functions accurately.
