Abstract

The guard-rail structure for contiguous-disk bubble devices shown in the drawing has a first side 10A and 10B, a second side 12A and 12B, and a third side 14A and 14B consisting of a plurality of narrow non-implanted propagation elements with deep cusps relative to the bubble diameter, for example, 10 x the bubble diameter. The fourth side (not shown) is a mirror image of the second side. The geometry of the guard-rail structure is designed such that all of the cusps comprising the guard-rail are oriented with the bubble easy stripe-out areas (112, 121, 211) bisecting the cusp angle. This structure is capable of preventing bubbles entering the active area at any bias field within the device operating margin. Each side operates as a passive annihilator.
