Abstract

A test station in an automated assembly line for diskette drives automatically loads a test diskette cartridge into the diskette drive. In Fig. 1, the diskette drive 10 is in position to receive a test diskette 12. The diskette drive is conveyed to the workstation by a belt 14 on frame 16. Once the drive has reached the workstation, it is moved automatically by apparatus (not shown) to the position shown in Fig. 1. With drive 10 in position, the test diskette held by jaws 18 is positioned vertically until it aligns with the insert slot of drive 10. The vertical positioning is accomplished by slide 20 moving on one or more rails 22. When the test diskette is at the correct vertical position, jaws 18 move forward (Fig. 2) on rails 24 and 26. The jaws are moved by a pneumatic cylinder 28.

With drive 10 in position, the test diskette held by jaws 18 is positioned vertically until it aligns with the insert slot of drive 10. The jaws are moved by a pneumatic cylinder 28. Diskette 12 is inserted, as shown by diskette 12', inside the drive 10. Once the diskette has been inserted, then jaws 18 release the diskette and load lever 30 in the drive 10 is operated to clamp the flexible disk of the diskette inside the drive 10.
