Abstract

The dot-forming elements 10 on a moving carrier 11 of a matrix printer are offset longitudinally so that a fraction (1/2, 1/4, etc.) of the print hammers 12 need to be fired simultaneously. The print hammers 12 would be fired in a staggered manner as the dots align at the suitable dot positions out of phase with each other due to the offset. The arrangement reduces the peak power drawn by the hammer drivers from the power supply.
