Abstract

In making adjustments on a SELECTRIC typewriter for rotate and tilt, a transducer may be attached to the upper ball socket of the typewriter to determine the amount of rotation of the upper ball socket in response to machine operations. The measurements made by the transducer may be used in an automated assembly and adjustment apparatus for making final adjustments. In order to eliminate the need for a second transducer and a second set of control electronics to measure the tilt of the tilt mechanism, it is desirable to convert the motion of the tilt pulley 10 to a movement of the rotate pulley 12, thereby allowing the measurement of the tilt pulley 10 as a function of the movement of rotate pulley 12 as manifested by the rotation of the upper ball socket of the tilt ring assembly.

In order to eliminate the need for a second transducer and a second set of control electronics to measure the tilt of the tilt mechanism, it is desirable to convert the motion of the tilt pulley 10 to a movement of the rotate pulley 12, thereby allowing the measurement of the tilt pulley 10 as a function of the movement of rotate pulley 12 as manifested by the rotation of the upper ball socket of the tilt ring assembly. In order to derive motion from the tilt pulley 10, the interconnecting device engages the tilt pulley 10 with a spade member 14 which is mounted on an axially movable shaft 16. Shaft 16 is guided by a guide member 18 to insure appropriate axial movement without lateral movement. The movement of shaft 16 will translate into a like movement of support block 20 which carries pivoted thereon by pivot pin 22 an oscillatable arm 24.
