Abstract

The Al2O3/TiC is electrochemically treated in an aqueous NH4F solution at a voltage of up to 6 V, etching the TiC but not the Al2O3 . The TiC reacts anodically, forming CO2 and TiF4, the latter being hydrolyzed to form TiO2, whereas the former escapes. Microroughening does not affect the polishing grade of the surface contacting the disk.
