Abstract

This paper separator/indexer arm 10 dispenses single sheets of paper 12 from a stack of sheets 14 by means of a rubber roller 16 actuated by a one-way ratchet and pawl 18. A double-acting cylinder 20 advances the rubber roller 16 in a forward direction locking the ratchet and pawl 18. A paper loader 22 keeps the top sheet of paper loaded against the roller 16. The friction attained between the locked roller and the paper is sufficient to force the paper against a separator stop bar 24, causing it to bow upwardly. The roller 16 continues advancing, causing the single sheet of paper 12 to curl under to a point where the leading edge becomes released advancing the sheet into a pick-up chute 26.

Paper Separator - Indexer

The cylinder 20 then returns, freeing the ratchet and pawl 18 and allowing the roller 16 to roll back to when it will be ready for the next sheet of paper.
