Abstract

A mechanism is shown in the figures for automatically opening a door for access to a cartridge containing a magnetic media wherein the door-opening device also serves as a lever to assist in the ejection of the cartridge. The cartridge may hold one or more disk-shaped magnetic media wherein the door prevents contamination of the media while allowing access of a magnetic head and a suspension system to read and/or write magnetic impulses onto the magnetic material. Or the cartridge may contain a web or tape of magnetic media either in the endless version wherein the opening of the door provides direct access of a head to the media, or of the type including a leader wherein another apparatus pulls the tape from the cartridge through the door access. As shown in Fig. 1, a cartridge 1 is being inserted into a loading station generally shown at 2. The cartridge is shown in the insertion position wherein the cartridge has a distance 3 yet to travel before being firmly positioned within the loading station. The cartridge 1 at one corner includes a door 4 essentially closing off access to the magnetic media. The door 4 includes a door seat 5. The door is pivoted at point 6 for rotation away from the cartridge when the door seat 5 contacts a roller 7 which is journaled to a lever arm 8.
