Abstract

The primary ground lead connects a machine main ground point to the line cord socket ground point. The socket is located inside the AC box (which is as totally enclosed as possible). For some countries, the primary ground connection point has to be visible, with the AC box closed. The arrangement discussed below achieves this for a very low cost. As shown in the drawing, the ground point is provided by a screw attachment on the outside of the AC box. The screw is positioned on a slightly depressed area, which has an opening along one edge only. The opening is just wide enough for the ring of the ground terminal to pass through.

Improved Primary Ground Lead Connection

The primary ground lead connects a machine main ground point to the line cord socket ground point. The socket is located inside the AC box (which is as totally enclosed as possible). For some countries, the primary ground connection point has to be visible, with the AC box closed. The arrangement discussed below achieves this for a very low cost. As shown in the drawing, the ground point is provided by a screw attachment on the outside of the AC box. The screw is positioned on a slightly depressed area, which has an opening along one edge only. The opening is just wide enough for the ring of the ground terminal to pass through. When making a connection, the ground terminal, with the AC box open, is passed, from the inside of the box, through the opening and attached to the outside of the box with the necessary screw and washer. When the AC box is closed, the ground cable is completely protected inside the box and the connection outside the box is easily visible, without reducing the AC box integrity.
