Abstract

Providing a menu-generated insight into a queue facilitates planning and improves user flexibility. Queue length and job progress are generally not readily obtainable. When obtainable, greater than normal user skills are required. As such, user planning and flexibility can be drastically affected. For example, a print job issued to a specific printer may require a number of hours to complete due to a large number of previously queued jobs. When printing actually does commence, a user has no feel for expected completion. One reason is that the printer is generally at a remote location. An insight into a queue based on menu selections presents an attractive user friendly manner of obtaining a printout on a more timely basis.

Queue Insight

A printer that is not busy can be selected, and repeated trips to, and wait time at, a print station are avoided.
