Abstract

A cartridge-loading device includes a receiving tray having means to hold the cartridge secure and to predetermine an orientation for the cartridge. The receiving tray is pivotally connected to a first cradle that is, in turn, pivotally mounted to the tape drive. A second cradle, also pivotally mounted at the same point to the first cradle, is actually connected to the receiving tray. As shown in the figures, the cartridge-loading device includes a receiving tray 1 with a roller 2 pivotally mounted onto a leaf spring 3 to co-act with a V notch in the cartridge (not shown). The biased roller 2 holds the cartridge secure in the receiving tray.

Cartridge Carriage Device

The lower portion of the cartridge and the receiving tray 1 has an opening 4 through which a drive mechanism (not shown) is mounted on the tape deck to engage the rotatable reel of the cartridge. A first cradle 5 is mounted at pivot point 6 to a base plate 7 of the drive. A second cradle 8, in turn, is pivotally mounted to the first cradle 5. A handle 9 is connected to the second cradle 8. A floating idler plate 10 including an integral idler button 11, for co-acting with the cartridge, is resiliently connected by a compression spring 12 to the receiving tray 1. The floating idler plate 10 holds the second cradle 8 in an upward first position for the loading of the cartridge. The first and second cradles orientate the receiving tray to assume three positions; namely, a loading, unloading and operation position. In the loading and unloading positions, the receiving tray 1 is incl...
