This is a cable termination design which combines the flexibility of point to point cabling with group cabling for ease of circuit board replacement.

Group cabling provides the most orderly method of interconnecting packaging units and permits lowest per wire cabling costs. Unfortunately, it lacks the flexibility of point to point single cabling. Engineering changes require changing the circuit board wiring rather than switching the individual cable conductors. This proposal provides a method of preterminating, e.g., single trilead cables, to allow them to be plugged into two or more printed circuit connector cards in any desired location. In effect, a cable harness is made with all terminations made to a number of connector cards. Since the connector cards are typically used on a 2-3 mm pitch, the connection is considered primarily mechanical and requires subsequent batch soldering after all cables have been attached to a particular card. The cards are then placed in the "group" assemblies and plugged into the circuit board recepticles. Individual wires can be changed by unsoldering them from the cards and replacing or relocating them as appropriate. Alternatively, pressure connection may be chosen depending on the room available in the respective connector type.
