Constant Pressure Device for Hopper in Document Auto-Feed Unit

This is a low cost constant pressure device for holding a variable document pile. The device is essentially based on the use of gravity force and is not subject to manufacturing tolerances while being fairly simple.

The document pile is held by a vertical plate P (Fig. 1) pushed against the pile by using the gravity effect due to a heavy piece of metal 1. The piece of metal is rigidly connected to a shaft 2 slidingly mounted in a linear ball slide 3. The ball slide is in turn rigidly mounted in a fixed frame 4. The shaft 2 being at an angle with respect to horizontal, the gravity effect on the piece of metal 1 moves the shaft 2 along the ball slide axis which in turn pushes the plate holding the document pile.

As shown in Fig. 2, the sliding shaft device just described is connected to one side of the vertical plate P, while the opposite side is provided with a wheel 5.
