Abstract

A thin film bubble detector dummy is positioned under a dummy chevron stack that is placed in front of the regular expander. As shown in the drawing, the expander 10 consists of a plurality of stacks or rows 12 of chevron permalloy elements. An active thin film detector element 13 is positioned between leads 14 under one row 12A of the chevron elements. The input 16 to the expander 10 is positioned next to row 12B. A dummy row 12C of chevron elements is positioned above input 16 and adjacent to row 12B. A dummy thin film detector 18 is positioned between leads 20 under dummy row 12C. This dummy detector 18 is positioned to permit a saving in chip area of about 4 percent which can then be used for storage purposes.
