Cable Winder

An operator loads a spring-loaded cable onto a frame-mounted pulley without dangerous unexpected release.

Lugs mount a pulley and spring assembly onto a frame. The spring maintains tension on a cable wound around, and anchored on, the pulley. A double-ratchet winder safely compresses the spring before the operator attaches the cable to the pulley.

Initially, pins on the winder's arm mate with holes in the pulley when jaws grip the spring frame. The handle turns the pulley against a ratchet until the spring fully compresses. The operator attaches the cable and reverses the ratchet, and then turns the handle to tension the cable and release the winder from the spring frame.
