Cover Section for Paper Opening of a Printer

A cover section for the paper opening of a printer serves as a paper table when opened and actuates a main power switch when transferred between the closed and the open positions.

Referring to Fig. 1, a cover section 10 is hinged to the main printer cover 12, for example, using a set of pins 14 (Fig. 2), and is moveable between a closed position covering the paper opening 16 and an open position (shown). In the open position, the cover section 10 is positioned to act as a support or table for entering or exiting paper (not shown). The cover section 10 additionally serves as a switch lever and includes projections 18 and 20 that interact with a notched actuator blade 22 of a switch 24 (the off position is indicated in phantom).

To provide protection from unauthorized printer use, a lock (not shown) may be provided for retaining the cover section 10 in the closed position.
