Document Pagination

Contiguous and logical document flow in paginated documents can be maintained following such operations as editing by providing an operator with pagination begin point flexibility.

Normal pagination has involved dividing a document into pages based on either an exact line count or widow line control. In addition, the ability to adjust lines has been provided. However, in the event of editing, repagination of the entire document has been required and format control has presented a problem. Repagination of an entire document for a change near the end of the document has drastically affected throughput. Insertion of differently formatted material into the document has required an alert operator in order to avoid original text following the inserted material being paginated to the inserted material format.

By carrying over formats, adding the capability of beginning pagination at any page in a document, and causing pages to be renumbered beginning on the first newly paginated page of the document, pagination operations and throughput are significantly improved.
