Abstract

A platen of a printer having a type band and hammers uses polyvinylidene fluoride (PVF2) material which generates a signal upon impact. The PVF2 material is segmented along the length of the platen. The segmented portions 10 are then connected in a series circuit by conductive material 11 and wires 12. This arrangement reduces the magnitude of the capacitance and provides a higher voltage signal at the OUTPUT terminals shown in the schematic diagram in Fig. 1. This forms a transducer for measuring and control of print hammer flight time.
