The character imprint is effected by a short-term hammer impact against the character on the type band rotating at high speed.

If compared with the rotating speed of the band the impact time is not short enough there is a slurred character imprint.

This slur can be avoided or minimized if characters 1 (Fig. 1, sectional view) are arranged on an elastic rubber buffer 2 on type band 3, or connected via etched-out resilient crosspieces 4 (Fig. 2, plan view) or rubber crosspieces (Fig. 3, plan view) to the base of type bands 6 and 7, respectively.
