Keyboard Acoustical And Contamination Prevention Device

A muffler member is coated with oil and serves the dual function of sealing in keyboard noise while sealing out and collecting dust in the keyboard environment.

A keyboard assembly 11 includes a unit frame 13 having plural chimneys 15 formed integrally therewith. Keybuttons 17 fit into the chimneys 15, depression of a keybutton 17 causing spring 19 to buckle effecting movement of plate 21 relative to capacitive sensing card 23. Muffler 25 fits over frame 13, sealing in noise of plate 21 striking frame 13. Additionally, muffler 25 is impregnated with oil to collect and trap dust located adjacent chimneys 15 thereby preventing the dust from entering chimneys 15 upon downward depression of keybuttons 17 which create air currents adjacent to the chimney 15.
