Abstract

A computer instruction is provided which presents the date and time of day in the date stamp applied to jobs running in a computer. The format of the date stamp is specified in a separate parameter list which is used to translate the timer count into a more human-readable presentation. Variable Format For Date And Time Of Day Presentation

A computer instruction is provided which presents the date and time of day in the date stamp applied to jobs running in a computer. The format of the date stamp is specified in a separate parameter list which is used to translate the timer count into a more human-readable presentation. The parameter list is a list of entries, specifying the value to be placed into the time fields.

The instruction includes an op code, a time field, a parameter list pointer, and an optional table pointer.

An example of the parameters which can be selected for placement in the parameter list is shown below. The sequence of the parameters in the list determines the sequence of the date time values in the time stamp.

To make the time stamp even more readable, a translate table (not shown) is provided to convert the month, day of week, and morning/ evening values to English values for easy reading.

For example, a time stamp TIME-09:15 AM TUESDAY will be created from a parameter list having the following entries: C"05TIME-5001:706042"

The "05" indicates that the next five characters, TIME-, are to be moved from the list to the time field. The "50" indicates that the hour is to be translated into a number 01 to 12 and appended to the present content of the time field. The "01" indicates that the colon is to be appended, and the "70" indicates that minutes are to be appended. The "60" indicates that the morning indicator derived from t...
