This molded plastic device permits up to four paddle card-type flexible cable assemblies composed of flat or tri-lead cable to be plugged into the standard spring and housing connector that is commonly used at the top of printed circuit cards.

In most of the previous instances, a rigid, pinned board segment with interconnecting printed circuit lines and conveniently contained within a molded housing is plugged into one of the four connectors at the top of a card and simultaneously bridges and connects with up to three adjacent cards. Connections to cards further away or in another board are not possible with this type of connector. In another instance, a flexible cable assembly is utilized at the top of the cards by using a double sided, pinned board segment which plugs into the card connector and onto which is plugged a cable assembly. Both cable polarization and retention of the cable and board segment are integral with the unique card holder designed for and assembled to a particular card size. In addition, a special strain relief housing is required on the cable assembly to provide a retention surface.

Referring to Figs. 1 and 2. the molded plastic self-contained, signalling cable coupler 10, by contrast, attaches directly to the four top card connector spring housings 11, and the coupler has dual spring housing latches 12 at each connector site which snap underneath the housings to provide retention for the coupler and the four double-sided pinned board segments 13.
